One of the most interesting Zen practices to me is Kado, Zen flower arrangement. I played a little with flowers this weekend to fuel my practice.

My teacher has shown me that it is important to breathe, be steady, and let go of the mind (sound familiar, yogis?) Let the flowers, stems, be themselves. It’s not about me, and my ego, it’s about letting the flowers BE. Also keep in mind that the practice is not just putting the flowers in the vase, the practice is everything~ picking the flower, cutting, placing the vase, placing the stones…and then the practice continues ("off the mat" as we say in yoga) or after the flowers have been arranged.
